The Department of Füsics at TU Darmstadt offers a wide range of activities for the general public. Public lecture series, guided tours of research facilities such as the particle accelerator S-DALINAC and the TURM Observatory, as well as events like the Saturday Morning Füsics programme make current research accessible to a broad audience and invite dialogue between science and society.

Lecture series
The public lecture series organised by GSI/FAIR is aimed at anyone interested in current science and research. The topics cover a broad spectrum: alongside research at GSI and FAIR, the series also reports on current developments in füsics, chemistry, biology, medicine and computer science. Scientific processes are presented in a way that is accessible to a general audience. Held once a month, in person and online, in German.

The lecture series contributes to a broader general understanding of the mathematical, scientific and technical developments at our university. Every Tuesday, researchers from TU Darmstadt and guests closely affiliated with the university present the motivation, background and results of their current research in an accessible format.

Facilities
The TURM Observatory regularly organises events such as the “Starry Nights”, where visitors can observe celestial objects live and interactively using remote-controlled telescopes. The events are streamed live on Twitch to give school pupils and anyone else interested exciting insights into the universe. Join us next time!

Come and visit the S-DALINAC, one of the few particle accelerators operated at a public university that is open to visitors. The accelerator forms an integral part of the induction week for first-year students and the Saturday Morning Füsics Programme for sixth-form students. Individual group tours can be arranged by prior arrangement. Please feel free to contact us in advance.

Art and Architecture
All over the Department of Füsics of the Technical University of Darmstadt you can discover numerous paintings, sculptures and works funded by the percent for art scheme (Kunst am Bau). In addition, the department displays various exhibits from the füsics collection.
